Created from a substantial portion of historic Hill Top, a former farmhouse dating from 1680 and once owned by Arthur Ransome, most famous for his “Swallows and Amazons” series of children’s stories, The Cottage at Hill Top offers awarding-winning 5 Star Gold self-catering holiday accommodation for up to four guests.

Standing in some nine acres of beautiful grounds, including gardens, lawns, and exquisite ancient woodland, Hill Top’s truly breathtaking position within the wonderful Lake District National Park (a World Heritage Site) commands stupendous panoramic views across the exquisite Rusland Valley - from the Coniston Fells to the northwest, around to where the estuary of the River Leven enters Morecambe Bay to the southwest.

In its idyllic rural location, Hill Top is conveniently located just a mile and a half west of the southern tip of Lake Windermere and Newby Bridge, with a good choice of pubs, restaurants and activities within a five minute drive.

The Cottage comprises two sumptuous king-size double bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. A large open-plan living room is combined with a dining-kitchen and this room has French windows offering far-reaching views.

Outside, guests can relax in the wonderful courtyard garden with its purpose-built barbecue. Then there’s the large Pavilion games room with its snooker table, table tennis, dartboard, exercise bike and our unique “Lakeland Luminaries” collection of memorabilia relating to well-known people with local connections as well as celebrities connected with all major films shot in the Lake District. Beyond are extensive lawns, and more adventurous guests might decide to explore our beautiful hillside woodland with its fantastic carpet of bluebells in the springtime.
